Here's my progress on my scarf for the Red Scarf Project this year...


I'd say I'm maybe a quarter of the way done. Looks good, may need some blocking. The seed stitch is a bit fatter than the other sections.


Just one sleeve and a neckline ribbing on mom's sweater and it'll be done! This is what I'm working on today/tonight.

Last night Bruce and Marissa took Stu and I out to Keys On Main. We really enjoyed ourselves. Requesting songs can be expensive and Stu said the drinks were a little steep. Stu paid $20 to stop a song and request his own, but someone else payed one more dollar and stopped his. Bummer. But the piano players were quite entertaining. I'd go again, only have a couple beers and not request any songs.

In other news, I'm still looking for a job. I have been looking for a total of five days. I've gotten no calls on jobs I've applied for, have gotten only one call back from all the staffing companies I've applied for and they also had me come in to register with them. My consultant there says that July and August were dead for them, but it's starting to pick back up. So, I hope something good comes of this one.

Given that I'm not even getting calls yet, I've been getting a little worried and started feeling defeated and stressing out. But, Stu has assured me that we've got enough money and money coming from school refunds and taxes to be okay for a few months. He also said that I've got time to look for something I really want and to quit worrying. I trust him, so I've mellowed a bit.

Stu also told me that in order to keep myself going, it might help to think of my severence pay as being paid for a month to find a job. Plus, the more doors I knock on, the closer I get to a job... "It's all a numbers game.", Stu said. And he's right.

I don't know exactly when we'll be trying for a baby, but we have about 5 more weeks until we can. I would like to wait at least until I'm working, but we'll see.

I just hope this all works out. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. Say a little prayer for me (us) please?

The following post is just a little update on what I've been up to.

Well, I've been busy making Stu and I's Halloween costumes. Whew, a lot of hours have gone into them! They are a surprise though, so I can only show you a glimpse...

It's my scarf for this year's Red Scarf Project! I LOVE that this scarf has different textures and I love each of them. I took out one texture in the pattern, it was too bulky, made the sides of the scarf bow out and the way I was doing it just looked like it didn't belong. The free pattern is called The Road Scarf and you can find it here. (Registration required, but free.)

Thanks to Jennifer at my knit meeting for donating yarn so our group could do some scarves this year! ♥


I've done the last coaster in a year of coasters for my niece. It was a great creative journey and I'm pretty proud of myself. You can find the free pattern for this coaster here.

My cousin, Peachy, even suggested that I incorporate all the coasters I've made for Danika into a blanket somehow so she can still use them and treasure them when she is older. Plus, that way, she could keep them all together effortlessly, haha.

My mom's sweater is almost done, too! Yay! Then we get to go pick out yarn for Stu's bathrobe. Yay!

In other news, I went to the doc on October 12th, she said everything looks good and suggested we wait two menstrual cycles before we try again. This will ensure that my body has healed from the miscarriage and all back to normal. Also, it helps give the couple (and family) time to heal emotionally from the loss before the next pregnancy. She told me that my next period could come between 2 and 6 weeks from the miscarriage. (That could put us trying again in early January at the lastest, ugh.)

She said that everything should go fine the next pregnancy considering why I miscarried (it happens quite often actually) and that the chances of this happening again are significantly lower. Nice. She also kind of said (under her breath) that it wouldn't be a big deal if I got pregnant before two cycles. So, I asked Stu if we could wait just one cycle, he said it's a good idea to wait and take advantage of this suggested healing time... he's right. [sigh]

God, I hope my cycle comes fast, that we are able to try by early December and that we're pregnant before we know it. I've been waiting a long time already to get married and have babies, so having to wait even longer to get there is difficult.

Wish us luck and tell my body to hurry up with the regular functions! Haha!

Okay, I think I'm done... I need some cold pizza lunch and maybe a nap? Nah, lunch, knitting, more coffee and a movie! Yes, sir, that's what I need on this cold, rainy Saturday.

I bought a Hairagami.


I'm attempting to grow my hair out with minimal breakage. So, five days a week, I have my hair up. I bought a Hairagami to help me get creative with it... getting pretty good at it. This was a bedtime bun.

I donated some yarn and a knitting loom.


I donated some yarn and a loom to a grade school where a lady from my knitting group teaches. This is what the kids already have going.

Danika went Halloween shopping with Ashley and I, she was very excited.



I mailed a scarf to The Red Scarf Project.


This is the scarf made of squares done by members in my knitting group, Salt Lake City Stitchers. I did the joining and border. I should've taken a better picture.

Ryn's getting over 100% in Honors English!!! YIPEE!! Good job Ryn!

I haven't done much with knitting and crocheting, I been busy. Whew!

I've given up on my initial Scrappy Tuesdays pattern , which was knit, and started again with this one.

This is gonna be one ugly blanket, but I'm sure I'll love it!

Ryn's Grandma sent her some lavender for her pillow. She wanted to know how long it would take to be able to smell the lavender through the plastic baggie... so I just made her a sachet out of fabric from and old tank top and some bulky yarn.


Just got this picture that was taken during the Park City trip from a co-worker. So, Christy and I played around on the luggage cart. She ran up and down the hall, pushing me.


I sent my scarf off to The Red Scarf Project on Thursday. I'm also still collecting squares for scarves from the ladies in my knitting group as well. The deadline is coming up, the end of October.

Look what they're selling at Walmart!




Just one of those funny things to see items shockingly close to your own hobby being pumped out from machines to be massively sold at the most popular department store in America. Kinda makes me jealous that I can't do the same with my own hands.


Danika is sitting up on her own now! She still needs supervision and a human safety net, but she totally supports herself!

I worked on the Basketweave Baby Blues blanket some more today... I would love to get into the basketweave stitches and out of seed stitch... almost there! Although, I do love seed stitch look and feel, I've never done it before. I made Ryn feel the fabric and I said, "Doesn't it feel just so pillowy?" Stu then promptly called her into her room to finish cleaning and called me a "bad mommy" for distracting her, haha. Whoops.

In other news...

Stu got Spore today!


Stu named him Pinkish, because while he was making him, I said, "He looks kinda pinkish."

In this game for PCs, you make your own "spore" from very few cells and raise and evolve them up through life.

He's been anticipating this game for quite some time. He wanted to get it at midnight last night at Walmart, but he reserved a copy at Game Stop before he knew about the Walmart release. So, we got up this morning, stopped by Janna's Java on the way (I had iced rasberry chai, Stu had mocha frappe with caramel) and headed of to Game Stop.

We got there about 10 minutes to open (11:00 AM). There were even two "dudes" who arrived after us for Rock Band 2, who, by the looks of them, had never been up before noon in their lives. One of them looked at the store hours on the door and said, "Oh, they aren't open yet." While the other started in at us with, "Hey, you guys know what's going on?" (Insert stoned face here.) Before we could answer his buddy said, "They aren't open yet! Didn't you just hear me?" It made me giggle inside.

I also finally got to rent Lego Indiana Jones for Playstation 3 today!!!



I've been hoping to rent this game each time we went to the video store since it came out, but it's always been rented out. When Stu found it, I snatched it from his hand and did a little squeely dance while hopping for the register with enough enthusiasm to make him react with, "Oh my God, you're a freak." while laughing. Heehee.

I played a little today, but it started getting challenging, so I took a break and have been knitting. Besides, it's more fun when I get to play with Stu and he's playing Spore today anyway.

I'm also getting ready to mail Ryn's last haircut hair to Locks of Love, which I should've done months ago...



And lastly, Stu and Ryn have been busting butt to get her room sorted, weeded (getting rid of unnecessary things... not actually weeding... oh my God, could you imagine, ew!) and cleaned. They did awesome, doesn't it look nice? (Yes, she needs a new dresser, don't judge us, we're working on it.)

The Red Scarf Project

In a previous post I talked about my knit and crochet group on Ravelry doing a charity project for the Red Scarf Project. I figured if we had the goal of making just one scarf together, people could participate without much being demaded of them. One could make just one square, twenty or a whole scarf if they chose. Well, it seems to be coming along nicely and I'm doing more than I thought I would...

And, dude! I'm SO close to getting Polly's bedspread done! This thing is a monster, it takes up our whole dining space floor in the apartment!




Laying it out on the floor like this really put things into perspective about how close I really am. Only 2 more rows to go after the loose squares shown are attached. But then I have to close up intersections and do a border... hope that's quite a bit faster!



There's a new addition to our household...


Now we have a decent table to sit down together for dinner instead of watching TV on the couch. Stu picked it up at the Thrift Store for $30, chairs and all. It's in great shape not including the water marks from glasses on the surface. We're all pretty excited about this!

Stu also bought me Batman Begins and The Nightmare Before Christmas on DVD. Then, as if that wasn't enough, he got a new cable service and added a DVR with me in mind. Squee! Now I can watch Knitty Gritty, Ghosthunters and Dharma & Greg, and plenty others. The shows I've mentioned were either on while I'm at work or were on channels we didn't have... but now we do! My fiance... he's the man.

Ryn has also started junior high... AHHHH! Nah, it's cool, she's doing well and having fun so far. =)

Visitors from outer Utah

So, we're looking for a place in Salt Lake now! Stu will probably have to start working for it to work, which means it would be longer until he graduates. But, I'm sure we'll figure something out. We went looking at houses to rent last weekend and in our driving around came across one that all three of us fell in love with. Unfortunately, it was rented out the week before we saw it and we got the call notifying us of that almost a week later. =( Oh, well, we'll keep looking. =)

We had an out of town guest at our last SLC Stitchers meeting...


Peachy (Raechel) is knitting a square for our group project for the Red Scarf Project. Mine and Peachy's Grandma came to the knit meeting this week. She didn't knit or crochet, but instead was making toy balls out of fleece for charity. It was a really fun visit.

In needlework news...


I'm crocheting a baby blanket to keep in stock for future baby showers. It's going really fast since I'm using a P hook and two strands of yarn throughout. I also plan to do a "boy" blanket and a gender neutral one. The basic idea here is that I have one of each on hand, ready to gift. Then, when I give that one blanket away, I make another similar themed blanket (boy, girl or neutral) to have "in stock".

I also plan to do another square soon for the SLC Stitchers group project of making a scarf for the Red Scarf Project. I did this one last week...



And, as always, I'm still working on Polly's bedspread too! =)

I also did a tiny bit of miscellaneous crafting this week...


I made this for my portable DVD player and discs out of an old tie-dye shirt I had stashed to use for fabric strips for knitting or crocheting. All I did was cut two pieces, cut strips towards the center, around three edges, then tied them together in square knots. The straps is three long pieces braided, knotted at the ends and tied into the top square knots. There are gaps between the knots, but that's okay, my player doesn't fall out and that's the point. =)
