More yarn, gaming and a Slipknot lunchbox.

Photo Album and Knit & Crochet Photos updated!

Uno on Family Night
My first news is that Ryn is got A's on her progress reports in Art and Math! (These are the only progress reports she recieved.)

project recycled
Here's my progress on the Scrappy Tuesdays Blanket (week 3). Not too much yet, I'm slackin'.

I've also made some progress on the Basketweave Baby Blues Blanket...

Basketweave Baby Blues
I love the look of this blanket, the pattern is so fun!

Lots has happened over the last week...

Stu on Warhammer
Stu on Warhammer. This was for "headstart" on Sept. 14, where people who ordered the special edition version (like Stu) got to play a few days early! The game went fully live on September 18. He loves this game and says that it just keeps getting cooler.

Stu's Slipknot Lunchbox
Stu got a Slipknot lunchbox...

Uno on Family Night
...then proceeded to consult it during our Uno game on Family Night.

Re-organizing
I grabbed another box of yarn from my storage unit on Thursday (they're charging me WAY too much now, so I'm slowly cleaning it out) and re-organized my craft stuff on Saturday.

Yarn Boxes

Chocolate Zucchini Cake
Christy gave me some shredded zucchini from her garden and I made some cake with it. We can't even tell it has zucchini in it though. I think there was too little zucchini or too much cake batter. I'll keep this in mind for next time. It's still yummy though!

Child Pose
I did yoga this morning. I'm having a hard time keeping my bum-bum down on my feet in child's pose (shown here), but I'm sure I'll get better with practice.

I don't have a monkey on my back...

...it's on my dining room table.

Photo Album and Knit & Crochet Photos updated!

Sock Monkey
Hand sewn for my cousin Raechel's birthday.

This little guy was fun to make! Only a tiny bit of challenge involved. Although, he did take longer than I expected, being that his body and tail (the first things I did) went really fast! He took prolly about three or four hours total. I'm guessing.

I bought a pack of three pairs of socks just to make this one. So, I will be making more of these soon and might add them to my regular crafting schedule. Poor Stu will be swimming in a sea of sock monkeys. I hope he finds it fun, haha!

I followed the directions seen here.

We had another gal show up to the SLC Stitchers (on Ravelry) meeting this last week. Her name is Jessica and she's really sweet. I hope she keeps coming!

Look what we saw!

What's goin' on?
Stu and I were on our way to go grocery shopping yesterday and saw this going the opposite way! There was a police escort for this convoy. You can see all the pictures starting here, photo viewer is to the right.

Not too much else going on this last week. Stu and Ryn and both doing great with school though! Yay, tribe!

Easy Sunday... for me.

Photo Album and Knit & Crochet Photos updated!

I worked on the Basketweave Baby Blues blanket some more today... I would love to get into the basketweave stitches and out of seed stitch... almost there! Although, I do love seed stitch look and feel, I've never done it before. I made Ryn feel the fabric and I said, "Doesn't it feel just so pillowy?" Stu then promptly called her into her room to finish cleaning and called me a "bad mommy" for distracting her, haha. Whoops.

I also got a picture of the finished scarf for The Red Scarf Project!

In other news...

Stu got Spore today!

Pinkish!
Stu named him Pinkish, because while he was making him, I said, "He looks kinda pinkish."

In this game for PCs, you make your own "spore" from very few cells and raise and evolve them up through life.

He's been anticipating this game for quite some time. He wanted to get it at midnight last night at Walmart, but he reserved a copy at Game Stop before he knew about the Walmart release. So, we got up this morning, stopped by Janna's Java on the way (I had iced rasberry chai, Stu had mocha frappe with caramel) and headed of to Game Stop.

We got there about 10 minutes to open (11:00 AM). There were even two "dudes" who arrived after us for Rock Band 2, who, by the looks of them, had never been up before noon in their lives. One of them looked at the store hours on the door and said, "Oh, they aren't open yet." While the other started in at us with, "Hey, you guys know what's going on?" (Insert stoned face here.) Before we could answer his buddy said, "They aren't open yet! Didn't you just hear me?" It made me giggle inside.

I also finally got to rent Lego Indiana Jones for Playstation 3 today!!!

I've been hoping to rent this game each time we went to the video store since it came out, but it's always been rented out. When Stu found it, I snatched it from his hand and did a little squeely dance while hopping for the register with enough enthusiasm to make him react with, "Oh my God, you're a freak." while laughing. Heehee.

I played a little today, but it started getting challenging, so I took a break and have been knitting. Besides, it's more fun when I get to play with Stu and he's playing Spore today anyway.

I'm also getting ready to mail Ryn's last haircut hair to Locks of Love, which I should've done months ago...

Ryn's hair...

And lastly, Stu and Ryn have been busting butt to get her room sorted, weeded (getting rid of unnecessary things... not actually weeding... oh my God, could you imagine, ew!) and cleaned. They did awesome, doesn't it look nice? (Yes, she needs a new dresser, don't judge us, we're working on it.)

Ryn's clean room!

Well, that's Sunday.

The Utah State Fair 2008

Photo Album and Knit & Crochet Photos updated!

Utah State Fair 2008
My favorite baby rabbit! You can see all the State Fair pictures starting here.

Ryn Stu and I went to the Utah State Fair today. It's seemed to have gone downhill quite a bit over the years and one ride, one time? Like, $5.00!!! No thanks!

We went through an entire building dedicated to textile entries and I didn't take one picture of any of them... I know, I can't believe it myself!

When did they start breeding alpacas with chickens?!?!

I'm also working on a baby blanket for an upcoming shower soon.

Basketweave Baby Blues
(Dont' worry Miss Polly, I'm only working on this one day a week. Mwa!)

Another "one day a week" project I've started, I'm calling it "Scrappy Tuesdays"...

project recycled

I’ll make this with frogged and abandoned project yarn and small leftovers not big enough to make anything with.

I’m using Russian join for the first time ever to join yarns in this project. I think I still need some practice. I should get plenty with this project.

I will probably only work on this one day a week (Tuesdays), since I have higher priority projects going as well.

The Red Scarf Project

In a previous post I talked about my knit and crochet group on Ravelry doing a charity project for the Red Scarf Project. I figured if we had the goal of making just one scarf together, people could participate without much being demaded of them. One could make just one square, twenty or a whole scarf if they chose. Well, it seems to be coming along nicely and I'm doing more than I thought I would...

Peachy's Square
Here's my cousin, Peachy's first square.

Peachy's Square
...and her second square, so cute!

Burgundy Slant Square
...and my second square. The first one was posted in a previous entry and can be seen here.

And, dude! I'm SO close to getting Polly's bedspread done! This thing is a monster, it takes up our whole dining space floor in the apartment!

Polly's Bedspread

Polly's Bedspread
Laying it out on the floor like this really put things into perspective about how close I really am. Only 2 more rows to go after the loose squares shown are attached. But then I have to close up intersections and do a border... hope that's quite a bit faster!

Polly's Bedspread

There's a new addition to our household...

Our New Table
Now we have a decent table to sit down together for dinner instead of watching TV on the couch. Stu picked it up at the Thrift Store for $30, chairs and all. It's in great shape not including the water marks from glasses on the surface. We're all pretty excited about this!

Stu also bought me Batman Begins and The Nightmare Before Christmas on DVD. Then, as if that wasn't enough, he got a new cable service and added a DVR with me in mind. Squee! Now I can watch Knitty Gritty, Ghosthunters and Dharma & Greg, and plenty others. The shows I've mentioned were either on while I'm at work or were on channels we didn't have... but now we do! My fiance... he's the man.

Ryn has also started junior high... AHHHH! Nah, it's cool, she's doing well and having fun so far. =)

Visitors from outer Utah

So, we're looking for a place in Salt Lake now! Stu will probably have to start working for it to work, which means it would be longer until he graduates. But, I'm sure we'll figure something out. We went looking at houses to rent last weekend and in our driving around came across one that all three of us fell in love with. Unfortunately, it was rented out the week before we saw it and we got the call notifying us of that almost a week later. =( Oh, well, we'll keep looking. =)

We had an out of town guest at our last SLC Stitchers meeting...

08/21/08 SLC Stitchers Meeting
Peachy (Raechel) is knitting a square for our group project for the Red Scarf Project. Mine and Peachy's Grandma came to the knit meeting this week. She didn't knit or crochet, but instead was making toy balls out of fleece for charity. It was a really fun visit.

In needlework news...

Pink & Red Star Blanket

I'm crocheting a baby blanket to keep in stock for future baby showers. It's going really fast since I'm using a P hook and two strands of yarn throughout. I also plan to do a "boy" blanket and a gender neutral one. The basic idea here is that I have one of each on hand, ready to gift. Then, when I give that one blanket away, I make another similar themed blanket (boy, girl or neutral) to have "in stock".

I also plan to do another square soon for the SLC Stitchers group project of making a scarf for the Red Scarf Project. I did this one last week...

One Hot Square

And, as always, I'm still working on Polly's bedspread too! =)

I also did a tiny bit of miscellaneous crafting this week...

T-shirt Tote
I made this for my portable DVD player and discs out of an old tie-dye shirt I had stashed to use for fabric strips for knitting or crocheting. All I did was cut two pieces, cut strips towards the center, around three edges, then tied them together in square knots. The straps is three long pieces braided, knotted at the ends and tied into the top square knots. There are gaps between the knots, but that's okay, my player doesn't fall out and that's the point. =)
